The Team

We are a bunch of friends who have been mountain biking together for over 30 years. In the past, we have crossed the Pyrenees, Alps and Rockies together. Yet the scenery in our own backyard can be as stunning as anything we have seen anywhere in the world.  Most of us are now the wrong side of 60, and some have “gone over to the dark side” by using ebikes. However all of us agree that Mountain Biking in this part of the world is one of the most enjoyable and healthiest pursuits you could ever engage in even for recycled teenagers like us!

About Us

Geoff

Geoff is a Hemi-semi –retired GP  who still works part time in Pontypridd. Having played rugby until aged 35, he went on to try hand gliding, parachuting, caving, fell running and white water kayaking.  Then he discovered Mountain Biking  and has not looked back! He is the route planner and navigator for the team.

Mark

The 'Pensioner' , a retired GP.  I will try any sport but mostly love the thrill of difficult down hilling and find these unclassified rides fulfil my needs of distance, scenery, good company and rugged terrain. I now ride a full suspension e-bike and appreciate assistance up the steeper hills. All my routes are on Strava on my account 'Mark Samuel'.  I take the photos.

Matt

Matt is a full-time Baptist Pastor with adventure in his blood loving the romance of the great outdoors. Moving to Wales at the age of 16 from the West Country. He discovered a whole new untamed playground of ridges, wild woods, fast-flowing rivers, coastline and plenty of Mountain bike action.

David

Dave is in his 60s with a grown up family. He worked for many years as a musician.

Having had a missed out on being a sportsman in his youth, he is now  making up for it.

He Joined the  biking group 5 years ago. Since then, on the advice of his doctor (Geoff)  he has  built up his fitness levels, come off blood pressure tablets, and left  the diabetic range. He never complains, whatever we put him through

Gareth

Having grown up in Pontypridd, Gareth moved West for work. Then 40 years later he came back to Pontypridd where his doctor advised him to take up Mountain Biking for health reasons! Gareth is the one with the conscience, so his nickname is Jimminy Cricket!

Alun

Alun has been a member of the team for over 30 years and has been on the trips to the Alps and Pyrenees with us. He is a youth worker. He has recently rejoined the team but has no need for an e-bike since he seems to have batteries in his legs.

Steve

Steve has  flitted in and out of the group over the past 20 years. Since recently retiring he has more time on his hands than ever for mountain biking. Having tried an  e-bike he has decided to stick with pedal power, since it is better for his fitness.
